Not every student learns the same way. In my classroom, I have some students who read picture books, chapter books, virtual books, or need to be read to. Another option for many students are adaptive books!
Adaptive books are books that have been modified to make reading accessible to individuals with disabilities.
Adapted books can be helpful for children with communication, visual impairments and cognitive challenges, including those who use AAC. They can also assist in comprehension and independence.
While I have begun a classroom adapted library in the past few years, I would like the opportunity to make the books better, last longer, and easier to use. I would love to actually bind my books without them falling apart and have the option of using binder rings for larger materials. The lamination and velcro dots will help my adapted books survive each school year and the paper cutter will allow my students to be part of the process of making adapted books.
