Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in an kindergarten ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) classroom in Brooklyn, NY. My classroom provides an inclusive learning environment for students with and without disabilities. We are lucky to have a diverse, immigrant population at our school. We are a Title I school with about 1,000 students. Although my students face struggles both at school and at home, they are always happy to be at school and excited to learn.
My biggest goal, is to create a classroom environment that makes them feel safe and loved while also keeping their excitement for learning alive.
This is especially important with younger children who are figuring out where they fit in the school community and are all becoming readers, writers, mathematicians, and scientists for the first time. In addition to academics, the kindergarten students in my class are also learning how to be good friends and good members of their community.
My Project
My students have different sensory needs and we need your help to give them the tools to make their learning experience the best it can be! We will use the weighted lap pads, balance stability discs, and fidget tools to give the sensory input we need to be more engaged and comfortable during lessons. We will use the laminating pouches, velcro dots, and cardstock to make math and literacy center games, as well as token charts and other behavior management tools. The erasers will be used for large and small group lessons, as well as centers.
By implementing multisensory tools in my classroom, my students' will increase their engagement and independence in the classroom, which will help them in the journey to becoming life long learners!
