My students are ages 3-21 and attend my adapted environmental science class once a week. In my class, the students learn how to take care of pets, manage gardens, and access and care for their environment. My program addresses South Carolina life science and Earth science standards which are adapted to my students' specific needs.
"Those you think cannot - CAN!" Our school motto describes my students perfectly.
With a creative approach, my students are able to care for their environment!
My Project
One of the main activities my students participate in during my adaptive environmental science class is taking care of our vegetable/fruit and flower gardens. Many of the students are not able to fully participate in gardening activities because they cannot use the tools we have.
Due to my students' special physical needs, they require adaptive gardening equipment!
The long -handled toolset will allow students who use wheelchairs to reach the garden beds from their wheelchairs. The adaptive wrist handles give extra support to the long-handled tools if the students need it. Finally, the easy grip toolsets allow ambulatory students to use tools in a way that works with their bodies' movements.
