Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a dynamic, versatile group of high schoolers. Two sections are special needs students, while the others are a mixture of students I have had previously and brand new ninth graders! I am delighted to be returning to JSEC for my third year and to bring a fresh approach to teaching Dance in a public school setting.
Many of our students have experienced trauma but also lack problem-solving skills and emotion control.
In addition to guiding my students in finding their voice through dance, I want to continue to create a reflective space for them to practice mindfulness and healthy expressionism.
My Project
These materials will provide my exceptional needs, English Language Learner and regular education students with the opportunity to expand their creativity and social skills.
I have been on a mission to bring more tactile learning tools into my classroom to instill lesson plans that are engaging, comprehensible for all levels and accomplish national dance standards.
However, due to a lack of personal and department funding, I have not been able to accomplish this goal.
Teaching dance in public education for the past three years has given me a new sense of purpose as an educator and independent artist. I look forward to sharing these innovative materials with my kiddos!
