I have the great privilege of teaching third grade in a rural, small-town, K-12 school. I have 15 unique students in my class who come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Despite all of the differences in their backgrounds, when my students walk through the door of our classroom, they walk into a community, they walk into their community.
My classroom is a place where life happens: community happens, growth happens, friendships happen, and learning happens.
My students are always eager to learn and they love to be challenged. I am constantly trying to find new ways to engage their minds and their bodies in learning. In a small school district with somewhat limited funding, I am grateful for the chance to create opportunities for my students that they might not otherwise get.
My Project
In this project, I've asked for an iPad and a cover for the iPad. There is so much uncertainty surrounding this upcoming school year. Educators across the country have begun to work hard to navigate these uncertain times. While there are so many things that will undoubtedly change this year, I don't believe that my Classroom Economy should be one of them!
For the last 4 years, I've used a Classroom Economy in my classroom; this iPad will allow me to continue using a Classroom Economy, despite the new restrictions in place due to COVID-19!
As students return to school, one of the biggest changes is that they won't be able to share items. This means that my entire Classroom Economy will have to become digital. This iPad will enable me to do that by allowing me to track students' deposits and withdrawals. It will allow me to keep track of bonuses, fines, and expenses. It will allow me to create an online store for students to spend their money at. It will allow me to try to keep something consistent in a time where seemingly everything is changing.
I firmly believe in the use of a Classroom Economy. It teaches students invaluable life lessons. It teaches them to be financially responsible. It teaches financial literacy. It teaches important economic lessons. It allows them to experience real-life inside the classroom. There are so many benefits to using a Classroom Economy. With your help, I will be able to continue this practice through the use of an iPad!
