Adapt, Access, and Create: Personal Agency in Art

Help me give my students different ways to access their creativity in visual arts. Adaptive tools and activities to practice and strengthen their fine motor skills in artistic creative ways is exactly what our scholars need.

My Project

Our special needs distinct students join with their general education peers in many subjects including visual arts. One way they tap into their unique creative genius is by using adaptive art tools, and parallel projects during art studio time.

During art class, they can exercise personal choice and agency with tools, materials, and projects that work for their individualized needs within the structure of our art studio.

Many of the activities and tools were chosen so that our students could work on fine motor strengthening and skills with activities like weaving, cutting, painting, and sculpture. Our students with Special needs also have sensory needs, so providing them with tools that create varying sensory opportunities for exploration are essential. Integrating opportunities that explore the senses will help entice and create productive challenges and experiences for our amazing students.

Our students with special needs will thrive as they begin to experience new pathways to access their creativity with tools that suit their individual needs and projects that provide many different opportunities for success.
