My students are an incredible group of five and six year olds who are growing up in the inner city. Our school is Title I and provides them with both breakfast and lunch to ensure they are not going hungry. Many of my students' families struggle financially.
Nevertheless, they come to school excited about learning every day and I do my best to give them exciting and engaging ways to learn.
I am inspired daily by the passion they have for school! My students and their families have such a commitment to their learning despite all of their hardships.
At this point in the year, my students have mastered the basic foundational skills they need to read. Our next steps are building on those skills so students can practice reading words, entire sentences, and eventually whole books.
Our classroom is in need of activities and resources to help my students take the next step in their journey in reading.
We will be using them during our reading stations every day. I know my students would love to use the letter blocks to build and read CVC words, and would have so much fun practicing sounding out and reading words with the simple word lock and key activity.
