My students need to move! The 4 Hokki Stools in the classroom would encourage “active sitting.” The stools would allow movement and students to release energy while staying focused and not distracting others.

My Students

My first graders are fun, loving, full of personality, eager to learn and very energetic! I teach in a Title I school in Michigan where the majority of my students get free or reduced meals. Even though many of them face challenges at home, they come to school willing to learn and try their hardest. We are working on building a classroom community that works together, respects each other and willing to put forth effort. We strive to keep a growth mindset and be open to any challenges that come our way.

My Project

First graders are constantly in motion and they would definitely benefit from a classroom that allows more mobility. Throughout our day we often take brain breaks and incorporate movement, but increasing numbers of students require more sensory input to stay focused and engaged.

The Hokki Stools allow students the ability to release energy while allowing them to focus.

Having students use the Hokki Stool instead of a traditional chair, allows students the ability to rock and wobble while working independently, listening, collaborating and sharing. The “active sitting” addresses the unique need of teaching students while allowing them to move without causing a distraction to their peers. They are light enough to move around, extremely durable and will be able to be used for many years.
