My students need flexible seating, so they can be comfortable and active in their learning environment with the exercise ball chairs and active stools, by allowing them to stem and work at the same time.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a very special and unique group of kiddos. They attend G.R.H.S. and are a part of our special education program. We are located in a small town in Arizona, where there are not many services available for students with disabilities. This is why our school strives to make sure that our students with disabilities receive the best experience they can while they are with us.
My class has a variety of students with different ability levels, but they all share one thing in common.
They all love to SMILE! Let me tell you, their smiles will brighten your day. This is why the building we are located in is called the SHINE building. My students shine so bright and will welcome anyone with open arms!
My Project
My students are in the same classroom for 4 out of 6 periods a day, each and every single day. I try to make my lessons as engaging and interactive as possible; however, it still doesn't allow my students to be as active as they need in order to focus on their academic work. My students were invited to go to a training where they were seated on exercise ball chairs, regular classroom chairs, and the wobble "active" stools. We noticed that my students who were sitting in these active and flexible chairs were more productive and were able to stem from their seat. Other students, were continuously getting out of their chairs and moving around the classroom.
These new active seats would allow my students to burn off energy and stem while they are still sitting in their seats.
This will result in more work being completed and fewer behaviors in the classroom.
