Our middle school is in the second largest city in our state, and we have a student population coming from a wide range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
Some of our students come from families with means, but a large portion come from families below or near the poverty line.
We also have a significant refugee population and many language learners.
Most importantly, my students need flexibility in how they access our curriculum. These seating options will allow them to focus their energy on learning.
My Project
These tools will round out my flexible seating options to provide my students with choice and voice in where and how they sit in my classroom. I have a yoga ball and a few of these balance cushions now, and the students LOVE them.
Having a few more of these items is going to allow more of my students take advantage of these seating options.
For any students having trouble focusing or containing their energy, this is an excellent option. The balance cushions allow kids to wiggle slightly in their seats and the yoga balls allow my most active kids to bounce, wiggle, and move!
