My Students

I have a class full of second graders who are always full of energy! We are a full inclusion district, so our class has a wide range of abilities and needs. This year among our 19 friends we have kids with ADHD, ADD, gifted abilities, autism, allergies, other learning disorders, as well as average seven and eight year olds who need to be engaged and challenged all day long. They are a wonderful group of kids who always strive to do their best and love to smile, laugh, and have fun at school!

My Project

There are many students, both with and without special needs, in my room who just need to get the wiggles out. I have begun implementing flexible seating in my classroom for this purpose. I have purchased 2 of these chairs already, and they are the first to be chosen every day. I notice that when my students are sitting on them they seem to have more focus and are more productive during the day. If I have more of these chairs, I can ensure that more students have the opportunity to "get the wiggles out" while working at their desk. They will maintain more focus and, in the end, feel more successful at school. Eventually, I would love for all of my students to have one of these at their seat, if they so choose.
