My students need active seating when working at their desks. The wobble cushions increase posture and core strength. In addition, the cushions increase desk longevity when students are not placing weight on chairs.
My high school is a Title I school, meaning 84% or more of our students are living in poverty, but this does not define them! Our school focuses on college and career readiness while acknowledging the needs of our students through differentiation and cooperative learning.
In my classroom I focus on STEM and project-based learning.
I'm always creating a student focused learning environment with not just me the teacher standing in the front of the classroom. My students are frequently in the laboratory or collaborating in groups.
My Project
Wobble cushions are designed to increase core strength and posture. I have one at my desk and the students ask to take turns using it. The cushion allows the students to sit up and not slouch but they don't realize this, they think the cushion is a fun fidget and they become more engaged in the lesson.
Sitting has contributed to lack of focus, active seating promotes slight core movements that keep the body engaged and the mind active.
My students do not sit for a long time since this is a science classroom and we perform labs standing, but when at a desk drawing a graph and analyzing data the students begin slouching and easily disengaged.
