My active 3 and 4 year kids love to play on the floor, but the carpet in our 'new' room is old and filthy, and there is no money to replace it.
I teach preschool aged children with hearing impairments.
Like any other 3 and 4 year old, they are active, curious, and eager to learn. Due to their hearing loss, they have difficulty communicating basic needs and interacting with others. Without early intervention, they will have difficulty being successful in school and work. They attend a public school, which houses the district's hearing impaired program, serving children from preschool to 6th grade. The school is considered a Title I school, meaning that we have a large number of children at or below the poverty level.
My Project
My challenge is to teach deaf children how to communicate. Since young children learn best through play activities, many of our activities take place in centers on the floor. The carpet I am asking for would give them a clean and safe place to play while they learn basic concepts, build fine and gross motor skills, experiment and problem solve, and learn to communicate and interact with others, developing the skills they need to be successful in school. The carpet also has the added benefit of teaching them sign language!
Your donation will help provide the environment my students need for learning, communicating, and future success!
Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your consideration!
