My Students

Do you remember what middle school was like? The good, your first crush. The bad, kids that didn't shower. And the ugly... Bullies. Bullying is becoming a major problem at our school and my students face difficulties knowing how to respect each other physically, socially, and emotionally.

As a middle school Health Enhancement teacher, my days are filled with great adventures as you can imagine.

My students for the most part are normal teenage kids. Which means that a single student can be happy, excited, sad, mad, and eager all in one class period. We are a Title 1 school with around 700 students, a little over 200 at each grade level. Of the 700 students a large majority of them are on our free and reduced lunch program. My department is given a budget of $700 a year, that is $1 per child.

My Project

The equipment on my wish list is for a new game called Tchoukball. With your help my students will recieve two rebounder angle bounders and six 8.5" univercell utility max balls. Tchoukball is a fun, aerobic, non-aggressive team sport giving players the opportunity to learn a lot of beneficial characteristics including: how to treat each other with respect, how to respect the personal space of others, and how to develop team work and critical thinking skills. My students will also have the opportunity to get a great deal of aerobic exercise while learning a great lifetime sport. My hope is that Tchoukball will teach my students the importance of working together in a non-aggressive way. Thus, helping the bullying problem in my school.

I know Tchoukball won't solve all the bullying problems in our school, but it will definitely help my students learn how far respecting each other can take them.
