Active Learning Strategies to Promote Inclusive Instruction
Teacher Professional Development: I need professional development books to help improve my ability to incorporate active learning strategies in my inclusive classroom. <profdevpilot>
Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or the same way.”
- George Evans
Active Learning has changed the experience of my students in the classroom. I now feel though it's time for me to expand my knowledge in this area and find new strategies and methods.
I am presently in my fourteenth year of teaching.
I have taught grades kindergarten to third grade. As a military spouse it took me awhile to get my degree as we moved every three years, but now am a year away from receiving my Masters Degree in Education as a Reading Specialist.
I also am the director of a free military child tutoring program, They are Heroes Too!. Now in our eighth year our all volunteer staff provide free tutoring services for children of our Armed Forces. Our program was featured in the November 2013 Family Circle magazine.
I am also completing a fellowship for the Military Child Education Coalition and mentoring student teachers from Stockton University in Galloway, New Jersey.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of books recommended by the website edutopia, EDWeek, and my college professors to use as professional development for myself regarding using active and practical learning strategies and collaboration techniques for my third graders.
These books will help me create inclusive collaborating communities of learners where students with wide ranges of abilities―from those considered gifted to those with severe cognitive disabilities―may learn together at their own level.
