Active Learning Stools; Adjustable Seating for Diverse Needs
Help me give my students adjustable height, active learning stools for the proper height at computer stations and the ability to move no matter what they're trying to focus on.
Students working in our library are kind, respectful of each others' cultures, accommodating, and thoughtful! Our school is close to military bases, and many of my students are the children of deployed military personnel of diverse backgrounds. Almost half of our students are eligible for free or reduced-price meals; there are many low income families and some students are homeless.
My students try very hard, are dedicated and enthusiastic, but they need additional resources to be more successful as they learn Computer Science, Digital Citizenship and Literacy.
Our student population is racially and ethnically diverse, with a variety of religious backgrounds. Many start the school year with us then move on to another school. Our district is one of the top ten most multi-cultural districts in the United States. We have students from Somalia, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Pakistan, as well as Alaska Natives from rural areas. About 33% of our student population receives Indian Education, ESL, Speech or other special services. All my students deserve a chance, but as our school district budget declines, it is difficult to find the resources we need for all to succeed.
My students need the support of donors.
My Project
I work with all the students in my building. They need these stools because they have diverse learning needs and these stools will ensure that all of them have equal opportunities to learn.
Kids come to the library every day to learn literacy and technology skills, work in the Makerspace, study, read, and access the computers for searches, NewsELA, and CS First Coding.
All my students need to be able to move to use up extra energy while they work. Unfortunately, the library chairs are either too short, too tall, or too hard, and my younger students have trouble reaching keyboards unless they kneel. These Adjustable-Height Active Learning Stools will help ease frustration and encourage students to focus as they can move while working. This helps greatly to lessen frustration among students with special needs, as they have a need to move more frequently. These stools will help my students not only have safer seating but also focus as they move so they can work together and be tolerant of each others' needs to complete an assignment.
Our library serves many different grade levels and diverse learners; students need equal access to computers and keyboards, and these active learning stools fit that need by giving the ability to move while they work. My students need five stools that can be pulled up to computer stations so they can move comfortably and ergonomically reach the keys to do their searches, word processing, nonfiction articles, and CS Coding. These stools are adjustable just by weight, so all my students can use them, no matter which grade level, height, weight or ability.
There is no money in the library budget for furniture, so my students need the help of donors. Please help.
