My Students
At my school, we work with Pre-K to fifth grade students including immigrants and refugees from countries all over the world.
In this class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.
This is a 4th grade writing class where we use Columbia University's research-based Teacher College Reading and Writing Project. This is a dynamic and rigorous approach to teaching reading and writing.
Our school is one of most diverse schools in the district which makes it a great place to learn about math, literacy, science... and each other!
My Project
My students will be immediately able to respond to vocabulary reviews and formative assessments on their individual whiteboards using whiteboard markers. This will help keep students actively engaged in classroom discussion and better prepare students to share their thoughts with the class. When calling on a single student, that one student may be the only student thinking about the answer. However, when asking the entire class to write down their answers on their own boards, you are greatly increasing the amount of students who are processing the question and as a result engagement increases.
My students will be actively engaged throughout the entire class period and will be willing to verbalize their answers because they have had time to write and prepare for class discussion.
My students will have more fun in class because whiteboards will fight the monotony of common ways to respond in class. Most importantly, these white boards will help them learn more content faster because the amount of responses to the text will increase.
