Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 6th and 7th grade Social Science. Middle school students are special individuals who are experiencing many social, physical, and emotional changes. As an educator of middle school students, I love to watch them grow academically and achieve their goals in the classroom.
I want to make sure I can help provide them with skills and knowledge upon which to build as they meet their goals and become successful.
My school is a K-8th grade school where a majority of the students receive free or reduced-priced lunch. Many of my students are ESOL and some of them have special needs.
English language learners face a particular challenge of learning a new language and culture and can greatly benefit from visual access to multiple texts. These students struggle because they are trying to understand and fit in a new culture. Their parents struggle to help them because they never went to school here.
Our classroom does not have the technology needed to facilitate 21st century learning.
My Project
The laptops requested will provide my students with the support they need to close their academic gaps. Students will be able to access interactive materials that allow them to practice concepts taught in class. They will be able to complete research on topics that interest them for further learning. Students will also have access to digital books to meet Social Science goals.
The use of technology in the classroom is no longer a luxury but a necessity.
All of the district-adopted programs across the curriculum offer valuable resources and activities online. However, with the limited amount of funding the schools receive, it is nearly impossible to provide students with digital access to these websites without the proper tools.
The laptops I am requesting for my classroom will provide my students with endless learning opportunities.
My students will be able to practice, improve, and master their skills in Social Science. The use of technology will allow students to work on skills at their independent level at their own pace.
They will have added tools to motivate them to learn as well as meet their individual learning needs.
My 87 students will benefit immensely from these laptops as most do not have these tools at home to support their daily learning.
