My students need a variety of Science Lab items such as Tectonic Sandbox, iron filings, a digital scale and a Hubbard Scientific Water Cycle Model Activity Set, for an opportunity to take part in hands-on labs and activities and observe demonstrations to connect the content to the real world.
"Every kid is ONE caring adult away from being a success story." - Josh Shipp
It is my goal to be that adult. Each day I try to make my classroom a place to explore the world, I try to encourage my students to make mistakes and learn from them, I try to let my students know I care about them.
My students come from a very diverse community.
I teach 7th grade science in Lake Worth, Florida. Some of my students are English Language Learners that may not have even attended school before and others have had many excellent learning opportunities. Regardless of their academic background my students all love hands-on labs and activities and demonstrations. They are excited to enter my classroom, especially when they see me wearing my tie-dye lab coat or one of my humorous science related t-shirts, since they know we will be doing something fun that day!
My Project
My students need a variety of Science Lab items such as Tectonic Sandbox, iron filings, a digital scale and a Hubbard Scientific Water Cycle Model Activity Set, for an opportunity to take part in hands-on labs and activities and observe demonstrations to connect the content to the real world. The materials in this project will be utilized by my students to bring the content to life! They will use the water cycle model to watch the entire process in front of their own eyes! Students will create their own convergent, divergent, and transform boundaries. We will explore sound waves, deposition, density, magnetic properties, and so much more with these materials. In all I have 10 labs/activities/demonstrations planned for these materials. Students will be engaged in the content and writing about their discoveries.
Since my community is very diverse some of my students have had opportunities that others have not had.
This project will allow students to come together and explore the stimulating world of science. Students will facilitate some of the activities. Other planned events will allow the students to discover the material together. The goal is not just to bring the content to life but also to build relationships within the classroom.
