My Students

I am a special education teacher, and all the children I work with have some type of learning disability. Often times that is viewed by others as a lack of ability. The kids I work with may have challenges; but, they all have incredible abilities. They never stop to amaze me with what they can accomplish with the correct support and tools. These kids need someone who looks beyond the disability and challenges them in unique ways to help them move to the next level.

Many of the kids I work with come to me with low self esteem because they do not understand why they cannot read or write like their peers; but, with the proper interventions, they soon love to read and write and their self esteem sky rockets.

By using researched and evidenced based interventions these kids have the ability to close the gap they have with their peers. Everything used in instruction is well thought out to the smallest detail to help them succeed. These kids need you to believe in them and help them succeed.

My Project

In my classroom there are no chairs. Why? Because research from brain scans has shown that when we are moving our brains are more activated and as a result, we learn more.

So in my classroom, I never tell my students to sit still, instead, I encourage them to move and wiggle while standing to activate their minds and enhance learning.

I do not use chairs in my room, I use seat cushions on the floor for them to stand on and wiggle all they want. They can jump, stomp and move their feet. As a result they are very engaged in a lesson!
