I have a group of 18 kiddos from a wide variety of backgrounds, many of whom have experienced significant trauma. They are all so excited to walk into school every day despite what their home lives may have looked like that morning. We are a Title I school where every child receives free lunch and breakfast.
My students are very hands-on, eager learners.
My goal is to create an honest, loving, caring environment for all of my kiddos. This includes meeting their academic, as well as social-emotional needs.
My Project
As a first year teacher, I came into a very unorganized classroom. With children from traumatic, unorganized backgrounds, the disorganization can throw off their day when they can't find something or put it away in a specific spot. Organizing is important to the classroom environment in many ways, one being the teaching and learning aspect.
My second graders love to help organize!
Having materials in specific containers and drawers for easy access for my students will be very useful. Each student will have the ability to engage in our organizing process, as well as use the STEM materials for fine motor practice.
