Help me give my students a boost while learning, reviewing and staying active in a nonactive world! The stepping stones I borrowed this summer were a huge hit - the students couldn't wait to get to that station.
Today's students are accustomed to technology and having the world come to them. But deep down, they love to move, and more than that, they need to move. They need to move in class, they need to move in math, in science and even in reading. I see the sparkle in their eyes when we are active, and learning takes place without them even knowing it is happening.
Too many of our students lack coordination and strength, and all of them need cross brain activities to give them a boost!
My Project
Last year I introduced Action Based Learning into our grade level curriculum. The students loved it - they were engaged and ASKED me to create more opportunities for them to practice our academic and content specific vocabulary and content review. I would like to add materials this year now that I know how to manage the materials in my classroom, which is crowded already!
The + is the extra materials that I plan to use just to get the students moving.
I have tape on my floor in movement patterns and hopscotch on both sides and all day long they are hopping their way around. It is fantastic! An example of an activity I would like to add this year is reading content words and bouncing the syllables on a stability ball. They are moving, reading, thinking and strengthening their cores!
