My Students

Our high school is located in a rural, economically challenged part of Western North Carolina. All my students in this particular class (ACT Prep) qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

My students are a core group of students identified as "at-risk" 10th and 11th graders.

They all express a desire to go to college but lack preparation resources for the college entrance exams (ACT, SAT).

While students and teachers set high standards at our school, there is a resource gap in our community.

My Project

My students are 10th and 11th graders taking a newly created elective: "ACT PREP." This class is dedicated to helping them attain the highest possible score on the ACT test. All students in NC are required to take the ACT test as a measure of accountability and "college readiness".

Scoring well on this test is important for college selection, scholarships, internships, and in some cases companies offer salary bumps for entry-level workers.

These study guides and practice tests will aid my students in the pursuit of those higher scores.

As the teacher, I consider these test prep books to be important tools to use in the classroom.
