Acknowledging Multiculturarism in Preschool!
My students need a variety of multicultural instruments, a set of Dolls from Around the World, CDs, and art materials to learn about diversity in preschool.
"Cultures can only realize their further richness only by honoring other traditions," Diasaku Ikeda said. My preschool students are learning to honor other cultures through play, music, celebrations, food, and art activities, but they need additional materials to enhance their learning.
I teach preschool at a high poverty school in Southern California, most of my students are Hispanic and African American descent.
Engaging them in a variety of multicultural activities is vital to help them develop a positive self-concept and self-esteem.
My vision is to incorporate additional multicultural materials into our class activities to help my students learn inclusion and acceptance. With the collage sets and art materials that I'm requesting, they will be able to create art work to express what they have discovered about differences and similarities among their peers and teachers. Throughout their interaction with multicultural materials, they will become confident about themselves and will develop empathy for diversity. As a consequence, they will also learn to stand up for themselves in case of bullying or any injustice toward them.
The musical instruments and the Cd's will add joy to my classroom.
They will love to sing and dance to music from diverse cultures as well as they enjoy their own music. It is only through donors like you that I'm going to be able to provide my students with multicultural materials that will enhance their learning and social skills in preschool. Please donate and become part of my students' success!
