My students need a djembe stand, pandeiro, chimes, and 2 autoharps repaired plus freight charges (from the school site in California to the repair shop in Kansas).
Autoharps rescued from dumpsters need some TLC. With your help, we can put them in the hands of students who are without a music program.
Hola, and welcome to my proposal to support the music and social studies education of earnest, eager students who represent twelve home languages.
These loving children attend a high poverty school in a district that cut all elementary art, p.e., music, library, and computer teachers, in a state that is #1 in prison spending and #49 in education spending. Although we know the neurological benefits of music education, barely one of five students will receive it during their K-12 career.
My Project
Our choir program integrates social studies with the performing arts through music, movement, and songs, especially singing games from all over the world. Students and their families share the joy of community as did new immigrants, pioneers, and sailors of yore when our program culminates with an old fashioned barn dance for which the audience spends more time on its feet than in its seats. Two autoharps need repairs by Chuck Daniels of Autoharp Rx so students can make stirring music despite little instruction in beat, rhythm, and pitch. We also need a set of chimes, pandeiro, and a stand for the djembe for these eager participants who may never solo but will play these instruments with pride.
Thank you for reading this proposal to mend our achy, breaky harps.
If funded, we invite you to our next Family Sing-along and Dance Together to see students sing, dance, play our refurbished harps, djembe stand, pandeiro, and chimes, and to join in the fun.
