Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Over 80 percent of the students are English Language Learners, and all of the students receive free breakfast and lunch due to the socioeconomic status of the families. As a result, the school is a Title I school and the students would benefit with any additional resources that would enhance their educational experience. There are events that occur at home and/or in the neighborhood that at times can hinder their ability to remain focused while at school. My goal is to keep the students engaged in a rich and safe learning environment. Also, some students that are in my have been mainstreamed in to the general education class and have an individualized education plan to meet their needs.
My Project
Setting goals is something that every person that is successful has done. During this school year, I would like to teach the students a lifelong skill of setting goals and take them through the process of tracking their success and celebrating their success.
The materials in this project will allow the students to keep a Data Binder and track their progress in various academic subjects.
The binders will allow the students to be organized and track their journey throughout the year. Having their own binders will also allow the students to have something visible and tangible at all times within their desks. The students would not need to wait until report cards or parent conferences to know what their grade in the class is because they would be able to track their data along the way. Most importantly, the students can set their goals and watch their progress along the way through the usage of the data binders. The materials in this project will allow me to teach the students a set of skills that go far beyond the 5th grade and is applicable to all subject areas such as math, science, language, reading, social studies, etc.
