The students I work with come from all walks of life and carry with them stories of struggle, perseverance, and success in their home lives and school lives. Some love school and look forward to being here every day, while some find school unenjoyable because they have not found success in something school related yet. This is where I come in. I try to provide an array of activities in which my students can find success in order to change their minds about school.
The students in my learning strategies classrooms struggle with organization, academics (because they are below grade level in the areas of reading and math), and lack social/emotional skills necessary to work successfully in groups at times.
The work we do in this class differs day-to-day depending on their needs.
The students in my art classes are fragile in that they have intensive medical needs, have difficulty communicating these needs, difficulty moving freely on their own, and/or significantly below grade-level in the areas of reading, math, and social skills.
My students struggle to feel success at home and in the classroom. There is no easier way to feel success than in seeing your vision come to fruition. My goal is to provide a comfortable learning environment where students feel safe, comfortable, and ready to learn and create art.
The items we receive with your help will be used in making projects involving clay, decorating their clay creations, painting portraits of themselves and nature, and using markers, paint, and colored pencils to color subjects of their choice to relieve anxiety.
Students in my class, with your help, will have the supplies necessary to make their visions come to life, while in a comfortable, peaceful setting, made possible because of flexible seating to include chair balls and sensory equipment.
