Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing. Maybe I am a little partial... We do a lot with what minimal supplies we have and I would love to see their growth potential soar with new and exciting items in our classroom.
We are a Title I school in Pasadena, TX where Hurricane Harvey made landfall during our first week of school last year.
Our school community was majorly affected by this natural disaster, even students and staff having their homes flooded and being rescued and displaced. I received two new students in the aftermath. We are Houston Strong!
My classroom family works hard and I am so proud of them! My students are like sponges! I love them all so much. Their potential is limitless. To help my students be their best academically, I would like to have some more sight word/literacy items to make our learning more engaging.
Thank you!
My Project
My students need Sight Word Puzzles, Giant Alphabet Beads, Magnetic Letters and Dry Erase Markers to master higher reading levels. The better the sight word fluency, the easier it is for reading comprehension. The development of sight word recognition continues to be a top priority when instructing emerging and beginning readers in my classroom.
Sight words are very important for a child to master because, believe it or not, sight words account for up to 75% of the words used in beginning children’s printed material!
Sight words promote confidence. Because the first 100 sight words represent over 50% of English text, a child who has mastered the list of sight words can already recognize at least half of a sentence.
Also, sight words help promote reading comprehension and provide clues to the context of the text.
Please help my classroom achieve our sight word recognition goals.
