Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a low-income school where everyone gets free lunch because the percentage who qualifies is over 80 percent, but the students want to be able to compete with peers who do not face the socio-economic challenges that they do. Our Boys Varsity Soccer team is one of the best in the state and has made it to the State and Conference Finals the last two seasons. Because of their dedication and hard work, the boys dominate our league every year.
They are not just a soccer team; they are a FAMILY who looks out for each other.
They overcome the challenges of living in an inner-city and attending an urban school. Their love for the game and pride to play for our school is evident every season. Their coach goes above and beyond what is required of him and is a true father figure to the team.
My Project
These materials will help our Varsity Soccer team as it trains to compete for a championship. This season will be even tougher than the past few because the officials moved us into a more competitive division. We often complete against schools that come from more affluent communities with active boosters clubs and parents. Our coaches often provide the bulk of the training supplies and materials since there is a minimal school budget for athletics.
With these supplies, our varsity team will have basic necessities to help them as they train and condition to be competitive in our league and state division.
The icepacks and tape supplies will help them treat minor injuries and take preventative measures against injuries. The canopies are greatly needed because there isn't any protection for the bench when it rains. During significant rainfall, the players and coaches are soaked to the bone. The team goes through strenuous workouts and practices to make them competitive in our division and needs adequate hydration materials after practice and during games.
