This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In our magnet school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, my students deserve every opportunity that I can provide to learn more about real-life experiences that they might not get at home. My students enjoy hands-on experiences in science, reading, math, technology and writing.
My students are eager to make real world connections and to learn new things each day.
I want to give them as many opportunities with new technologies as I can before they go to Junior High. I want to increase vocabulary and encourage life-long learning in these students. My students are amazing and eager to experience life through projects, trips, and technology.
My Project
My ACE students will have the opportunity to choose independent study topics during their gifted and talented class time next year. I asked the students for topics to begin this set up in our room. The students are excited to self-select topics and begin learning!
Self-selected topics are going to keep my students engaged and eager to learn more.
My students will have time throughout the week when they can come to work on these projects. I chose the books "Differentiated Projects for Gifted Students," and Project Based Learning for Gifted Students because there are many topics in these books that my students were interested in. Our school wide theme is Growth Mindset so I chose "Ready to Use Resources for Mindsets in the Classroom." I also chose a leadership curriculum for students. The other books address critical and creative thinking skills. This is going to encourage my students to become more responsible, driven, independent workers. These projects will address social, emotional and real-world topics. We also want to increase vocabulary and critical thinking skills for our students to be successful life-long learners. I have requested many books.
