Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every day I encourage my 5th graders to push themselves to do their best and show the world what a force they are!
The 5th graders at my school come from various backgrounds with varying academic levels.
We are a Title I school and many our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our school is very small and is the only school in the district. Working in such a small community allows us to create a great relationship with our families.
My Project
After completing extensive research looking at both sides of the argument, I have decided to accommodate my learners with options for different seating. Being reflective on myself I know that I need to change up my seat every once in a while to be productive. With only the option of desks, we take the choice away from our students. I also want to work to support my students by providing a diverse set of books that represent my classroom and the world that we live in.
My goal is to create a classroom environment that is conducive to all types of learners.
The wobble chairs, wobble cushions, and comfy chairs will provide my students with the choice of working somewhere besides their desk. It gives them a voice in the way they learn best and the ability to get some of the energy out in a productive way. The books that I chose help to teach the students that everyone’s needs are different and that accommodations will look different for all of my learners. The storage containers and school supplies (i.e. markers and headphones) will help to organize the room and make sure that everyone is ready to work.
