This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hi! I am a 5th grade Math teacher. I teach 3 classes totaling 75 culturally diverse, ESL students - a quarter of which are diagnosed with special needs. What I love most about my students is their positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning! I admire my students’ ability to persevere through challenging tasks (with a smile) – whether it be inside the classroom or out.

The past couple of years have proved to be exceptionally challenging.

COVID-19 has brought upon an era of astounding technological transformation in education. Now that we are back in the classroom, it is my goal to create a learning environment that mimics this revamped Digital Age. With your help, I hope to provide my students with the technological tools that will prepare them for the real - and wizarding - world.

My Project

Accio technology! In the magical world of Harry Potter, “Accio,” (the summoning spell), is a charm that summons an object towards the caster. My students and I would like to summon 4 Kano Harry Potter Coding Kits.

There are many ways students can develop job skills for the future with coursework focused in coding.

Unfortunately, teaching students to code is a social justice issue. The direct correlation between low socioeconomic status and school district funding has limited my students’ access to technology that develops computational thinking (coding). Every day, my students live these issues of race, socio-economic status, and equity. It is my hope that – with a little bit of magic – my students can see past these social constraints and become the brilliant wizards and coders I know they can be!
