Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my class come to school everyday needing support, structure and attention. My students make up a very close knit class. They truly care about each other. Our motto is "Try your best!".
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
100% of the districts students receive free breakfast and lunch. I keep a bin in my class room and if there is any extra food from the breakfast bags the students eat them for snack.
My Project
Having a classroom speaker and individual headphones for the computers will enhance the listening experience of all the students in the classroom. The individual headphones will help the students perform at their own personalized levels. The headphones allow for the students to hear audio books that are at their own level and without disturbing the ones next to them.
My students need a classroom speaker and individual headphones in order to further differentiate lessons and engage the students in the classroom.
The individual headphones will eliminate the distraction of what the student a seat over is working on. Not only will this help to focus the student, it will also increase their overall performance as a result of minimizing outside distractions. The students could also benefit from a classroom speaker. The classroom speaker will allow for the students to benefit from interactive lessons that can be projected in front of the class. As the room is currently constructed, the only option is to have the volume come out of the computer. This is simply not loud enough for the students to hear. Such a speaker will go a long way in helping to further engage the class as a whole. The wireless mouse is for the students to use for the interactive lessons on the board, this will help with student engagement.
Beyond this, flexible seats would also increase the overall learning environment as a whole. Not only do the seats provide extra comfort to the students, but the also allow for a more individualized feel as each student will have their own seat/space to work in. This provides a sense of self sufficiency in the classroom that is hard to come by otherwise.
