My Students

Students at our school are growing and changing daily! Rooted in our school's culture is having a growth mindset. This means that students are always looking for ways to improve and overcome challenges - academic and social. Not only are our students growing, but the community in which we live is changing too, since we are in one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S.

Our students are very service-minded and want to learn about the world to make it a better place to live and grow.

The school community is all about giving and supporting others. We did this through a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House, collecting shoes through Kindness Ninja for African children to attend school, and competing with other schools for doing the most acts of kindness. Our students are also committed to encouraging others to be active and healthy through our walking program, where we logged over 8,000 miles as a a school!

My Project

5th grade is a pivotal year for students in our school district - they are the leaders of the elementary school and preparing for their middle school. To become leaders of the community they need to learn more about the world and current events through safe media platform. Scholastic News fits the bill perfectly!

Scholastic News is timely, and provides not only a written magazine, but also access to videos, games, and other online media resources.

We plan to use the content across curriculum areas to work on our reading strategies, writing, debating, analyzing data, connecting current events to historical events, as well as learning about science with the Science Spin.
