Accessing Environmental Science College Credits in the AP Classroom

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a small inner-city high school that focuses on project-based learning. We are part of a consortium of schools that are exempt from state testing in favor of standards-based learning and performance-based assessments. Students are able to use inquiry in science to more deeply explore the world around them.
My students are excited to learn and are working hard to overcome a variety of barriers to success.
Approximately 90% of the school population falls below the poverty line. Many of our students are special needs and recent immigrants. We work hard daily to support our students in all of their academic and emotional needs and need materials in order to support them as best we can.
My Project
These resources will help me create a well-rounded classroom to support successful completion of the AP Environmental Science Exam which provides my students with access to college credit. While test-prep is not my only goal in this course, I believe it is important to provide my students with the same opportunities that their peers have in being able to start college already having credits achieved.
Students will gain confidence and self-esteem by starting college with credits they've already earned through this course.
I want to use these resources to excite the students about the environment around them. I hope, through these resources, to better prepare my students for college and to raise the next generation of environmental scientists.
