Our school has an enriching, ethnically diverse population of 9 to 12 graders. Our students' population is comprised of 31% Latino, 7% African-American, and 10% Indochinese students. Forty-one percent of the school population receives free or reduced lunch support. Our classrooms are a combination of GATE, general education students, and instructional support students. Our school strives to support every single student by making learning engaging. Nowadays, students continuously need to be encouraged to read more than just their text messages. Therefore, as a French teacher, I always strive to provide my students with the resources needed to efficiently learn French as a second or third language.
My Project
Being able to have a zone free DVD player would allow me to play authentic DVDs from French speaking countries, which would enhance my students learning of the French culture. Furthermore, with a DVD player I can add French subtitles so my students can not only hear French, but they can also read it to help with their understanding of the language.
In my classroom, I currently do not have headphones for students.
Most students do not own headphones with a jack connection. I use a lot of sites on which students can listen to authentic French podcasts or videos at their own pacing. The headphones would allow all students to be able to access the material.
