Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My main goal for this project is to get accessible books into the hands of every child in my classroom. Although I teach third grade, I have many students reading below grade level, as the majority of my students are Multi-Language Learners. I have been provided with enough grade level texts for my students, but do not have enough books for my students who are reading significantly below grade level. The book sets that I have added to this project will allow me to teach essential reading skills such as vowel sounds, blends, and more to my emergent readers. I am hopeful that these books will help my students move towards grade level in reading. Along with reading essentials, I have also added some math items to my list that will help my students build their multiplication fact fluency, and practice numerous other math skills.

I have twenty-three students, each diverse in their social/emotional development and needs.

Several of my students have endured trauma and require support in recognizing and regulating their emotions. I have added some SEL resources to my list to support my students in their social/emotional development, such as the matching game and workbook of activities. I hope that through these opportunities, my students can apply strategies to help them navigate emotions and difficult situations. The stools provide flexible seating for my students who need alternative seating options. I believe that these stools will help some of my students to focus.

My students are so deserving and motivated to learn. I want to provide them with the necessary tools to succeed. I am hopeful that through this project, my students are provided with academic and social/emotional tools that allow each of them to thrive in my classroom!
