Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students see school as a safe place and come each day ready to learn. All students at our school qualify for free or reduced price lunch. They strive to make the most of each day, despite the challenges they may be facing at home. My class loves challenging themselves to learn more, and are eager to see their growth in reading every day.
My students love coming to school each day to learn more about themselves as individuals.
They enjoy being able to show their understanding in many different ways, both on paper and though technology and love being given the chance to boost their computer literacy skills. Utilizing technology not only builds these important life skills that will help my students be successful outside of school, but also allow for differentiation that is necessary for each of them to succeed. In addition to growing more comfortable and confident with themselves as an individual, my students strive everyday to show their ability to collaborate with their peers while demonstrating skills necessary for success later in their lives.
My Project
My eager group of third graders thrive when they are provided better access to individualized learning. Though many struggle at home, school is a safe place where they are able to thrive and reach their highest potential. Technology allows them to access content and material that they would not otherwise be able to. As a teacher I am able to set up learning stations based on individualized needs and desires to allow each of my students to access what they need to be successful. While we have access through school owned laptops, only 3 of them are fully functioning all the time which makes it challenging to rely on them for these stations.
With our own set of Chromebooks, all students will be able to participate and get exactly what they need from these centers.
We have already gathered a few Chromebooks for our class to use, which is a HUGE help in making these centers happen on a regular basis. We have been able to set up literacy centers using websites and apps like Myon, BookNook, and Reading A-Z, math centers using Khan Academy, science practice using our science curriculum Amplify, and get to practice coding. Together we are able to build both our literacy skills along with gaining more access to STEM content allowing each student to develop skills they need to be successful in the future.
These Chromebooks will help to build our classroom set so that in the future each student will have access to working and reliable technology for both centers and individual work.
