"All I really need to know, I learned in kindergarten" As a kindergarten teacher, this is my favorite quote because it underscores the importance of our kindergarten experiences. This quote reminds me how important it is that I do my job well and with my students' best interests in mind.
Many of my students live in poverty, many are learning English as a second (or third, fourth .
. . ) language, and many arrive in kindergarten already behind their peers in academics. It is because of this that everything I do as a teacher needs to be powerful and purposeful so that my students can succeed in school.
My Project
Having an easy access book shelf and color coded book bins will make it easier to organize our classroom library. A bookshelf with wheels will make our library portable and will help us use our classroom space efficiently. We are also in need of a new CD player, as the one we currently use has seen better days! The new CD player is Bluetooth compatible and can be used with 6 headphones for use as a listening center.
Giving my students an organized classroom library and an easy to use listening center will increase their independence and motivation for reading.
Not only will they be able to find books they want to read, but they will also be able to keep our color coded library organized. With an easy to use CD player that also functions as a listening center, my students will have another option for exploring books!
