My Students

My students are largely low-income kids attending a Title I charter school. They are dedicated students with huge amounts of creativity and curiosity that flourishes when given the opportunity.

In my classes my students practice communication and self-expression through the use of technology.

It's incredible to see their excitement when learning to use the tools we have available at school, dream about the applications of other technologies around us, and imagine our future world and the ways in which technology will influence it.

My Project

In schools today having access to technology is a key element for student learning—from writing papers, to doing research, to creating presentations—it is used almost everywhere. Unfortunately, many times our students find themselves in class without the ability to use these resources.

The lack of access to even simple technology that can create presentations, surf the web, or type documents is a major block in student learning, and something our students face in class every day.

Our school has a limited number of computer labs to share between the entire student population, and if one cannot be scheduled, it creates an extra hurdle in the already difficult journey of student learning.

We need classroom sets of Chomebooks so that students can have access to basic technology that is key for their work, and really focus on the important parts of learning, rather than logistics of how they will access knowledge.
