Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have had the pleasure of working with first graders for the last 4 years. I always have an energetic group of kids that are eager to learn. My students vary regarding the support they need to be successful and engaged in learning. An iPad and Apple pencil will provide my students with the ability to engage in learning in ways they have not been able to before.

My students come from very low-income homes, many of which are actually coming from temporary housing.

We are a Title I building with over 90% of free and reduced lunches. As a teacher in the upper grades, I have noticed a lack of independence when it comes to learning. I do everything in my power to foster independence and a love for education and our school. I want my students to take charge and initiate their own learning. This can be difficult for many of my students, especially ENL students, and students with learning disabilities. Having access to an iPad will not only increase their engagement, but it will enable them to access social studies, reading, math, and the arts as well.
