My Students

I have an awesome opportunity to work with 6th and 7th grade students throughout the school year. These students have been chosen to participate in a small group intervention to support them in their reading skills.

Many of the students I work with are very capable but have yet to find that good book to hook them into reading.

I enjoy working with these students because I feel like I have the opportunity to share with them my excitement of learning and show each one of them their potential. My challenge is providing them resources that will meet their needs and keep them motivated and engaged in learning.

My Project

Reading comprehension and interest are essential in learning. If students fall behind in reading comprehension for their age/grade level, then students struggle to process new vocabulary and concepts presented in textbooks and other literature.

I am requesting 4 portable CD players and books on CD that will help to support increasing my students' reading skills and improve my students’ attitudes toward reading.

Researchers have demonstrated that the use of technology exposes struggling readers to different types of literature and assists with vocabulary acquisition.

The use of audiobooks will lead to an improvement in my struggling readers’ skills and attitudes. They will allow my struggling readers to love reading and feel confident about their reading.
