Access for ALL: Tech Opens the World to Challenged Readers
My students need a Kindle Fire HD enabled with Text-to-Speech capabilities and protective case.
This project expired on July 25, 2014.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
"I'm trippin', Mr. Birch. I actually like reading now. I mean, I actually like it!" - Fourth grade boy that I just started working with this year.
My students have faced challenges throughout their time in school.
They have had difficulties in major academic areas, and in particular struggle with reading. I work with students in grades K-5, most of whom have been identified as having learning disabilities.
With this Kindle Fire my students will be able to read independently. They will have access to a broad range of texts and be able to immediately access books that excite them. With the whole Kindle library from Amazon and the text-to-speech capabilities of the Kindle Fire there will be no limit to the books my students can read!
My students will feel more independent as a result of this project.
Additionally, they will be exposed to a technology that could really benefit them in their personal lives. After knowing the capabilities of the Kindle and how to best use the text-to-speech technology, these students may be able to continue to utilize similar technology to overcome challenges in their lives.
