This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach IB Language and Literature, AP Literature and Composition, and Film and Literature. My students are active, creative, and curious learners who love great stories, both written texts and films. We have excellent conversations; formal ones in Socratic Seminars and daily informal ones. My goal is to collect a wide range of texts and films to keep my students engaged in discussion and their own creative projects for the rest of the school year.
My Project
In our classes, we usually find that students absolutely love Shakespeare once they are able to decode the language. This year, one of the classes will read Othello and one will read Macbeth.
Though it is important for them to do the work of decoding excerpts themselves, these No Fear versions provide an entry point into the content for struggling students and help streamline the process for all students as we read together in class.
Students can fearlessly read their lines and participate in discussion with ease and grow more comfortable with the language and context of Shakespeare as they grow in their literature analysis skillset.
