Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"I can't see!" That is what I hear many times when demonstrating a science activity. Because we have limited resources, I can not always provide enough hands on materials for the students to do their own projects. With this camera, I will be able to ensure that all are able to see and participate.
My 4th grade class is filled with curious and motivated students.
Many are ESL/ELL (English Language Learners) and need the support of seeing images to go with ideas and vocabulary. Because we are in a low income school that is being particularly hard hit by budget cuts, we are unable to provide them with all the learning opportunities we would like. I want them to be able to get the most out of each lesson and foster their curiosity.
My Project
The look on kids' faces when they see the amazing result of a science experiment with their own eyes instead of from the back of a crowd standing on their tip toes, is one of the ways this camera will bring the joy of learning to the classroom. In other subjects, I can use the document camera to demonstrate reading strategies without having to make hundreds of copies and transparencies. I can read a book to them out loud and they can actually follow along. In math, I can show them how to work problems by using manipulatives that they can see and make sense of. In writing, I can model writing in real time and have them use the document camera to add their own ideas. There are hundreds of ways this camera will be used.
This would be such a welcome addition to our classroom!
