Accelerating the Learning in Order to Catch Up to Covid

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

During the entire Covid era, students have been impacted greatly. Many of the students who attend our school, including the fifth graders in my class, are from lower income households. Because of this, students have had to miss class because of their family being sick or because of the school closing down. Students have had to go hungry and wear old clothing that doesn't fit. During this time, the students have also had trouble getting online because of lack of electronic resources, such as internet. As previously stated, these students have had to miss Core Tier 1 instruction. As we have had to balance this out, it seems as though the students still are impacted by the start of Covid when they first had to leave school for three months of their end of third grade.

As we navigate this pandemic, my hope is to bring resources to my students who need it most, as well as give them the opportunity to succeed in spite of the adversity that this pandemic has brought to them and their families.

My Project

The materials chosen in this project are specifically selected to help students catch up to their grade level in science and math.

Students are in dire need of intervention to help them succeed.

Thanks to all the at-home learning days and the suspension of in-person classes that started in 2020, students have missed out on Core Tier 1 instruction that has inhibited them from understanding basic fifth grade topics.

My purpose with these Lego sets, math games, and STEM activities is to bring them back to where their knowledge is supposed to be in order to learn their grade level curriculum.
