My students need 10 leveled Accelerated Reader (A.R.), book titles and subscriptions to Scholastic News magazine to facilitate our school A.R. Program as well a sturdy bookcase to house all the new books for our classroom.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
A book in the hand is like an adventure waiting to happen. My students' adventure are just beginning to discovery the adventures that reading can bring to life. It is this teacher's hope that providing an abundant library will help students discovery a new world of imagination and discoveries.
My student come from varied backgrounds.
Many are poor and have very little at home. Most of the my students only have access to the books which I provide at school. This year I am faced with a very large group which means high demand but very little supply as this library has been totally funded by myself.
My Project
The resources that I have requested will enrich the Accelerated Reading Program in my classroom and provide my students with a plethora of titles that will help them achieve their reading goals and improve their reading levels. This will also give them an opportunity to discover the adventures that reading can bring to their somewhat limited resources.
As a reading teacher I feel that the more access and freedom students have to books the more they will become active readers and develop a love of reading.
Providing a rich library that is completely accessible to them will help my students become more independent and active readers. I am a true believer that active and independent readers become life long learners as well.
