My Students

My second graders are fun, energetic, and kind. I feel so blessed to have such an amazing group of students to share my year with.

My students come into second grade with a broad range of reading abilities.

I enjoy finding books that are at their level and challenge them to be better readers. However, second graders tend to find moving into longer texts challenging, and they need to learn to read in a way that prepares them for future learning.

My Project

In second grade students are transitioning to reading longer texts and that can be a challenge for many. Having the AR program available to my students helps them in so many ways.

This program helps students read with accountability.

It teaches them that they can't read without paying attention to what they are reading. It also helps prevent "fake" reading...also known as "I'm done" syndrome. This program helps me make sure my students are reading books that are at their comprehension level. It also guides me in helping them choose their next book to read.

I read a lot and I love to talk to students about what they have read, but I can't read EVERY book. This program allows me to keep my finger on the pulse of every child's independent reading choices.
