"We keep moving forward, opening new doors, doing new things, because we're curious, and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." ~Walt Disney As 21st Century learners, it is imperative that my students "keep moving forward" and "doing new things" that will support college and career readiness.
My students are gifted, creative, and critical thinkers.
Their eager young minds work collaboratively throughout the day. They continue to respect one another, try their best, work as a team, learn from their mistakes, and celebrate each other's successes. We are fortunate to be part of an extremely supportive community of parents, teachers, and administrators.
My Project
By adding 2 iPads to our classroom, students will be given more opportunities to take more AR quizzes.
Accelerated Reader is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor students' independent reading practice. Students pick a book, based on their given independent reading level, and read it at their own pace.
When finished, they take a short quiz on the computer. Passing the quiz is an indication that students understood what was read.
These iPad Minis allows access to Accelerated Reader which gives both children and teachers feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice. Instead of assigning books for students to read, they are able to choose their own. This makes reading a much more enjoyable experience as they can choose books that are interesting to them.
As with anything, performance improves with practice.
Creating a culture of reading in my classroom by providing ample opportunities to read and assess comprehension will excite and motivate my students. Accelerated Reader helps all children become better readers. When children read books at an appropriate level, they experience success.
