My Students

My school is located in a small, rural town in Pennsylvania. The school is very much the center of the community. The town was, at one point in time, a busy area with lots of coal mining opportunities. As this industry has declined, the town has shrunk. The school district now has fewer than 500 students, and many staff members are shared between the two buildings. I currently serve as the librarian for both buildings, teach some English classes at the high school, and this year I will be teaching music at the elementary.

My Project

Each and everyone one of us know from personal experience that it is easier to learn when you feel well, both physically and emotionally. My school has started some programs to help this in recent years, including providing free meals for students. Having laundry detergent available when enable us to either use the machine at school or send detergent home to those students who might struggle in the area of finding clean clothes to wear on a daily basis. This will allow them to feel better prepared as they approach the school day, and hopefully their grades will show the results.
